Cruise Ship Disappearances, Lost At Sea

Recently, researching disappearing spouses for another Yahoo! Voices article, I came across something that I found odd: cruise ship disappearances. Imagine being on a cruise with a friend or loved one to wake up to find them missing? Or suppose your co-worker goes missing? Is this possible? It appears that it is very probable as there have been approximately 171 disappearances over the past 10 years. The most recent case involves a woman from Canada, who was aboard the Celebration Cruise line headed from the Grand Bahamas to Florida.

The Lost

Fariba Amani disappeared late February 2012. Like many cruise ship mysteries, her boyfriend reporting her missing but had no idea what may have happened. Her family reports that they never met her boyfriend. Furthermore, her sister believes that Fariba's boyfriend was extremely possessive and jealous and may be to blame.

Rebecca Coriam of England went missing from the Disney Wonder. The ship was sailing out of Los Angeles to Mexico. Rebecca worked on the ship and went missing in March 2011. The ship was in Mexico when Rebecca vanished. She was last seen on a tape that was provided from the cruise line. Her parents are heart broken over the situation, as they feel that she may have been murdered and are looking for answers. On tape, she appears noticeably upset.

Lack of Evidence

While the FBI is generally involved with cruise ship disappearances, the cases seem to never have evidence of foul play. If no struggle was involved, there would be no concrete evidence unless a witness was present. But then there are also many rooms with private balconies, so how would one notice if someone was drugged and thrown overboard? While I feel a perfect crime is impossible, this would be close to one as there is no body, no DNA, no witnesses, no evidence or no confessions.

Why?

Many remain puzzled and upset wondering if these disappearances are related to suicide, murder, kidnapping or even drug smuggling? I am extremely suspicious of how and why these individuals disappeared. Could the cruise ship be hiding something? What do you believe?
